I don't think I'd yet seen Buffy when it was still a big thing! But yes, dS is kind of perfect-sized; I don't think I know everyone, but anywhere I go I recognize at least a handful of people. (Which is also why I really think of all the C6D stuff as mini-fandoms? Because I keep on finding a new thing and then going "Hey, look, you guys are here too!")

I kind of suspect that dS tends to draw the sort of people who are ... not in fandom for the wank? who really dislike it? I'm not quite sure! I do know that my previous fandoms wore down a lot on my wank tolerance and I am kind of adoring the way a dS-level wank is like another fandom's reasonable discussion. It's extremely comforting and kind of encouraging. :D
