twenty-one WIPs isn't too alarming

I plan to actually be productive today, but first -- the WIP meme! Happily I organize them by fandom or I would never find anything.

Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

(Carmilla) alternate ending
(DL) the magician's mark
(dS) Burning Down the House
(dS) Neutral Zone
(dS) The Windhover
(dS-DCU) FRASER IS SUPERMAN
(DW) mad Ten
(DW) Such Deliberate Disguises
(DW) The Care and Feeding of Your Atomic Bomb
(DW) TIME WAAAAR
(HL) Look On My Works, Ye Mighty, And Despair
(HL-SV) A Business Proposition
(HL-WC) fusion fic
(HL-YW) Gathering
(HSM) Even If We're Miles (and Miles and Miles) Apart
(Narnia) queer Edmund
(Narnia) The Möbius Queen
(Narnia-YW) Wardrobe
(SV) Break
(Twilight) oh godddddd WHAT
(WC) ot3 fic!

In conclusion, I want to cross Smallville and Young Wizards over with everything (except each other) and yes, I do have both a High School Musical fic and a Twilight fic. In my defense they're both about queering the fuck out of the texts.

Also, IDK, there may have been a bit in the meme that got edited out in repetition about how you're allowed to ask what any of the fics are about? You can absolutely do that bit; we all know I am ridiculous and like to talk about my writing.

This meme would really only be interesting if I did my original WIP folder instead of my fandom one, which only has one or two things in it.

I think I remember you telling me about every single one of these, except possibly the Narnia/YW and the WC one.

"who knows if it'll ever get written."

:( That makes me terribly sad because it sounds AMAZING. AND EXCITING AND AWESOME. AND YAY BRILLIANT CROSSOVERS! What are the chances you'd be willing to post a tiny snippet of that fic if you've written enough?

I knew I wanted this fic! It's just so lovely!
... then again, I want all the fic you ever write that pertains to my fandoms. And then some. So you know, I'll live.

Okay, I REALLY want to know about the one called "The Mobius Queen" and the Twilight fic.
gehayi: (women making history (erinya at LJ))

[personal profile] gehayi 2011-02-15 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The Möbius Queen is the fic where Susan is Jadis. Basically, after the train crash that kills all her siblings, Susan figures out that if time moves differently in different worlds, hypothetically she could travel backwards in time and stop her siblings from being killed. Along the way she ends up in Charn, and it goes from there. Incidentally, Aslan is definitely the villain in this one, and I am pretty sure it doesn't have an unhappy ending (even if you can't really win against Aslan).

I would ADORE that. That would be fantastic. Please please please finish it.

The Twilight fic is just, um, I am not quite sure what it is? It has Bella with agency and Edward/Jacob and possibly Alice/Bella, and IDK, I just want to write Twilight fic that would really piss Stephanie Meyer off.

Did you know that I'm one of the maintainers of a comm on LJ called Twispitefic? The stories takes Twilight canon and...oh, they put logical spins on things. They show Bella with backbone, or actually having a comprehensible reason why becoming a vampire is a good option. They give Emily Young (the woman mutilated by werewolf Sam Uley) and Esme Cullen (Carlisle's submissive and forgettable wife) agency and a voice. Edward gets laughed at by Buffy. There are crazy crossovers, take THATs and canon twists that are sometimes genuinely horrifying (Das_mervin's "Kiri, Kiri" definitely falls in that category).

Oh, and Emmett Cullen, Charlie Swan and Leah Clearwater are the mascots, because they are accidentally awesome and deserve a better canon than the one they are stuck in.

http://community.livejournal.com/twispitefic/profile

I suspect that most of the stories would make Meyer absolutely furious. It is NOT a place for Twifans--it's one for people who need to explode in angrily creative ways.

By the way, I'd consider Alice/Bella canon. Check out this bit from one of the Twilight outtakes. Meyer wrote this. I'm not sure she realizes what she wrote, but she did write this:

Alice sat with me on the black leather back seat. Somehow, during the long night, my head had ended up against her granite neck, her cool arms enfolding me, her cheek pressed against the top of my head. The front of her thin cotton shirt was cold, damp with my tears. Now and then, if my breathing grew uneven, she would murmur soothingly; in her fast, high voice, the encouragements sounded like singing. To keep myself calm, I focused on the touch of her cold skin; it felt like a physical connection to Edward.

It is CANON, y'all. (Or at least it was intended to be.)

There are a few technical glitches (mostly having to do with Lewis' internal timeline and backstory things) to work out, and then I have to momentarily shut off my six-year-old voice that insists ASLAN IS GOOD AND WONDERFUL AND REAL because it's a bit difficult to write Aslan as the villain if I'm listening to that voice. But it should get done!

I suppose Aslan could be a Well-Intentioned Extremist. Or a Visionary Villain.

So glad you like the link!

Twilight IS rubbish, in my opinion, but sporking the canon and then writing furious spitefics is remarkably entertaining. Definitely NOT what Meyer had in mind, but entertaining.

I don't ship Bella with anyone--you know me and shipping. But I'm firmly convinced that one reason that Alice loves to take Bella shopping is that she can go in the dressing room with Bella and watch her strip. I'm also convinced that Jasper knows beyond any doubt that his wife wants to do Bella...and finds the idea kinda hot.

I really want to do a Twilight AU for AU_bigbang. The thing is, do I go with the Twilight/SPN crossover about Bella's mother being badass and the Cullens using Bella as bait, or the Twilight/SPN/Dresden Files crossover with snarky ghosts, nerdy werewolves, two women POCs kicking ass, and Harry Dresden being creeped out by the Angel Castiel?

(This is particularly apropos because I'm also in the middle of writing Carmilla fic in which at the end she turns Laura and they run away to be lesbian vampires together, precisely because this was what Le Fanu was terrified of and railing against.

I wonder if LeFanu realized what he was writing...because they TOTALLY come across as a couple. It's very obvious that Carmilla is interested in Laura and that Laura is responding without quite knowing why. If he was really scared of female sexuality, that makes the story even BETTER.

Oh my God, this looks so amazing. I've only read the first Twilight book, but I would actually try to finish the rest if it meant participating in text transformation like this. *_____*

It all started quite by accident, really. See, Das_mervin has a sporking comm called Das_sporking, and she started doing the Twilight books. Chapter by chapter. In the sporking of the first book she did a fair number of spitefics, and I tossed in a few commentfics toward the end.

But then came the sporking of New Moon.

A book where 84% of the content is about Bella not getting over being dumped, using Jacob, treating her father like dirt, and spouting anti-human speeches.

And spitefics, both in the sporkings themselves and in the comments, BLOSSOMED.

Fifty-four thousand words of them.

Basically, the members of Das_sporking wrote a novel's worth of spitefics. So Mervin started a new comm, because keeping track of all the spitefics in the comments was almost impossible, and she wanted them to be read.

It's the most fun I've had in fandom for AGES.

"Works" refers to your WIP:s here, right? *giggles*

Hmm. Please tell me about "The Windhover"! Is it about Victoria?

[personal profile] luzula 2011-02-15 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, interesting! Is it in Victoria's POV or someone else's?

I have an idea for a story about Victoria, too, but it hasn't quite solidified yet. Basically, it's a post-Victoria's Secret story where she gets a life of her own and gets over Fraser (although it takes some time). Hmm, I think she doesn't do any more bank robbery stuff and instead becomes an only-halfway-criminal computer hacker and gets together with another female hacker.

And now you've got me wondering about how a Smallville/Young Wizards crossover would work. :D

I would like to ask about the Care and Feeding of Your Atomic Bomb, just because I love the title.

Ah, right, that fic! I kinda had been thinking from the title that it was going to be a Doctor/Master fic, because who else would be an atomic bomb, but this is also excellent! And yeah, WHO KNOWS what to do with human!Doctor in that situation. I don't even know.

I mean, I don't know what would happen with the human!Doctor in ANY version of the universe, because frankly I think he'd go mad being stuck always and always in just one place!

See, the thing that the human Doctor needs to do is BE THE DOCTOR EMOTIONALLY but have the memories of both the Doctor and Donna. Which would be very confusing--he'd have memories of being the wrong sex and the wrong species, and he'd know beyond question that he LOOKED like the one that Rose fell for but that he wasn't the same guy that Rose fell for. And since Donna got all messed up being a physical blend of human and Time Lord, the human Doctor should be all messed up as well. And having to find some way just to survive...on a planet that doesn't have the right kind of technology. And if he ever did manage to stabilize his body, he'd have to deal with the fact that he was effectively imprisoned on Earth (which the Third Doctor had to deal with for his entire existence as the Third Doctor, and it nearly drove him insane). He'd want his TARDIS. And space. And the Time Vortex. And freedom.

Eventually he would have to figure out if the man that he remembered the Doctor being was the person that he himself wanted--or needed--to be. (And that maybe being part Donna was actually awesome.)

Do I correctly read one of those as a Highlander/Young Wizards cross? Because that sounds...complicated.

The logistics of a Smallville/YW cross would also be complicated, albeit in a different way; I'd think it would almost have to veer sharply AU from wherever in SV continuity one introduced the convergence.

Me, I've been noodling in my head (though not on my hard drive) about how to engineer a cross between Young Wizards and Castle....

I am so onboard for the Epic Adventures of Queer Edmund (Queer Edventures for short? I am punchy today), you don't even KNOW. Also any of your Narnia fic, really. The only Narnia idea currently living in my brain focuses on the horror of returning to childhood from adulthood and also there is--Peter/Susan? My childhood weeps at this idea, so I haven't even committed it to writing.
littledust: Girl with rainbow-colored thoughts. ([dw] a mad mad mad genius)

[personal profile] littledust 2011-02-18 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Days later, I respond!

Basically, I figure Narnia would have a more lax attitude about incest, and hey, who wants an outsider to come in when you already have two kings and two queens? (Which isn't to say that they couldn't have had dozens of lovers. Anyway.) Then the Pevensies return to our world, and Susan's repression of inappropriate brotherly love turns into repression of all that is Narnia. I would need to write an EPIC to do justice to all the complications, so this will probably never leave Idea Land.

*head tilts* What's "Such Deliberate Disguises" about?

Crazy!Ten and Time War fics. I am so there.

Also, the Fraser is Superman thing sounds really cool. Although I think Fraser is much more interesting than most canonical DCU stuff I have read. Like, I think Fraser knows that his take on honor and justice is a big fairytale. It's a fairytale he pretty consciously chooses, because if his example makes one person believes in it with him, just a little bit, the world is a better place. And that if he doesn't keep choosing to tell that story, he could be ten times worse than Victoria.

I guess you could see Superman that way? You'd think he'd be very aware of how slippery reality and morality is, given the double life thing. Yet, I rarely get the sense he's that self aware though. He's pretty much invulnerable. What the hell does his example have to do with anything?

In turn, I suppose you could make the same argument about the Doctor being so above and beyond humanity. The difference may be that the Doctor fights with his brain and his heart(s). I dunno. At any rate, I'm sure your take on Superman would be interesting.
gehayi: (rory and amy (gehayi))

[personal profile] gehayi 2011-02-16 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
On the other, I think he might be too honest to lead a double life? And since George and Martha Fraser are dead at this point, he doesn't really have anyone he urgently needs to protect. THOUGHTS TO PONDER.

I think that he thinks it is very wrong to lie and he HATES doing it, but he worries about human friends and lovers who are not invulnerable being hurt if the bad guys learn who is close to him and he could not live with himself if anything happened to either Ray. So he pretends to be all Kenton Clark Fraser, Mountie and he has a billion or so rules about The Right Way to Act When Being Human. And most people think that Fraser is a very very socially awkward person (which he is), but they don't realize that he is socially awkward because he is always trying to behave in the way that humans say that they want humans to act: courteous, fair, honest, noble. (I think that it's a prevailing theory among his friends that he was raised by wolves.)
