twenty-one WIPs isn't too alarming
I plan to actually be productive today, but first -- the WIP meme! Happily I organize them by fandom or I would never find anything.
Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.
(Carmilla) alternate ending
(DL) the magician's mark
(dS) Burning Down the House
(dS) Neutral Zone
(dS) The Windhover
(dS-DCU) FRASER IS SUPERMAN
(DW) mad Ten
(DW) Such Deliberate Disguises
(DW) The Care and Feeding of Your Atomic Bomb
(DW) TIME WAAAAR
(HL) Look On My Works, Ye Mighty, And Despair
(HL-SV) A Business Proposition
(HL-WC) fusion fic
(HL-YW) Gathering
(HSM) Even If We're Miles (and Miles and Miles) Apart
(Narnia) queer Edmund
(Narnia) The Möbius Queen
(Narnia-YW) Wardrobe
(SV) Break
(Twilight) oh godddddd WHAT
(WC) ot3 fic!
In conclusion, I want to cross Smallville and Young Wizards over with everything (except each other) and yes, I do have both a High School Musical fic and a Twilight fic. In my defense they're both about queering the fuck out of the texts.
Also, IDK, there may have been a bit in the meme that got edited out in repetition about how you're allowed to ask what any of the fics are about? You can absolutely do that bit; we all know I am ridiculous and like to talk about my writing.

I think I remember you telling me about every single one of these, except possibly the Narnia/YW and the WC one.
no subject
The Narnia/YW one is, um, who knows if it'll ever get written, but basically Lucy finds the wizard's manual at Professor Kirke's house, and LWW is her Ordeal.
The White Collar one is extremely nebulous! IDK, I just want to contribute yet another OT3 fic, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link):( That makes me terribly sad because it sounds AMAZING. AND EXCITING AND AWESOME. AND YAY BRILLIANT CROSSOVERS! What are the chances you'd be willing to post a tiny snippet of that fic if you've written enough?

It was their second day in the country, and Lucy had found a book.
She and her sister and two brothers had been exploring the house all morning. It was a big old house full of curious rooms; both Peter and Edmund had been very impressed with the long gallery that, besides having portraits lining the walls, also had a real suit of armor standing sentry at one end; and Lucy had been intrigued by a little room in possession of nothing but a handsomely carved wardrobe, sitting there by itself. But eventually poking their heads into room after room had lost its novelty, and they couldn't go exploring outside, because it was raining a steady hard summer rain. The boys had gone back to the suit of armor, probably to figure out how to take it apart, and Lucy had followed Susan to a cozy room full of books.
Susan had pulled out a huge and rather intimidating encyclopedia, and was reading it with serious concentration. Lucy meanwhile wandered up and down the shelves, trying to find something more suitable. Most of the books were possessed of long and complicated titles; this didn't surprise Lucy much, since the house belonged to an old man who was a professor of something, and he probably enjoyed long books with complicated, academic-sounding titles. Lucy thought she might appreciate them with another decade of schooling.
Then, among all the large books, Lucy discovered a small one. It was tucked away between two big volumes, but when Lucy hooked a finger over the top of its spine and tugged gently, the book slid right out. It was a small and handsome book, rather beat up, with faded gold lettering on the cover that said, matter-of-factly, A Wizard's Manual. It was exactly the sort of thing Lucy had been hoping to find in a big old house on a rainy day, and it looked interesting enough that it promised to distract her, as exploring hadn't, from the thought of Mum still back in London during the air-raids.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)I knew I wanted this fic! It's just so lovely!
... then again, I want all the fic you ever write that pertains to my fandoms. And then some. So you know, I'll live.

The Twilight fic is just, um, I am not quite sure what it is? It has Bella with agency and Edward/Jacob and possibly Alice/Bella, and IDK, I just want to write Twilight fic that would really piss Stephanie Meyer off.

I would ADORE that. That would be fantastic. Please please please finish it.

Did you know that I'm one of the maintainers of a comm on LJ called Twispitefic? The stories takes Twilight canon and...oh, they put logical spins on things. They show Bella with backbone, or actually having a comprehensible reason why becoming a vampire is a good option. They give Emily Young (the woman mutilated by werewolf Sam Uley) and Esme Cullen (Carlisle's submissive and forgettable wife) agency and a voice. Edward gets laughed at by Buffy. There are crazy crossovers, take THATs and canon twists that are sometimes genuinely horrifying (Das_mervin's "Kiri, Kiri" definitely falls in that category).
Oh, and Emmett Cullen, Charlie Swan and Leah Clearwater are the mascots, because they are accidentally awesome and deserve a better canon than the one they are stuck in.

I suspect that most of the stories would make Meyer absolutely furious. It is NOT a place for Twifans--it's one for people who need to explode in angrily creative ways.
By the way, I'd consider Alice/Bella canon. Check out this bit from one of the Twilight outtakes. Meyer wrote this. I'm not sure she realizes what she wrote, but she did write this:
Alice sat with me on the black leather back seat. Somehow, during the long night, my head had ended up against her granite neck, her cool arms enfolding me, her cheek pressed against the top of my head. The front of her thin cotton shirt was cold, damp with my tears. Now and then, if my breathing grew uneven, she would murmur soothingly; in her fast, high voice, the encouragements sounded like singing. To keep myself calm, I focused on the touch of her cold skin; it felt like a physical connection to Edward.
It is CANON, y'all. (Or at least it was intended to be.)

Re: the Twilight fic comm, OH HOW SO AWESOME. :D In the Venn diagram of (people who love Twilight (people who think Twilight is rubbish but are deeply entertained anyway) people who HATE Twilight) I am firmly in the middle, and I want all the transformative fic that fucks with canon. So thank you for linking me to that!
I ... may ship Alice/Bella kind of hard. So I am sparkly-eyed with joy about that passage. Oh Meyer, you know not what you write. (This is particularly apropos because I'm also in the middle of writing Carmilla fic in which at the end she turns Laura and they run away to be lesbian vampires together, precisely because this was what Le Fanu was terrified of and railing against. I am beginning to sense a pattern in my writing. :D)
no subject
I suppose Aslan could be a Well-Intentioned Extremist. Or a Visionary Villain.
So glad you like the link!
Twilight IS rubbish, in my opinion, but sporking the canon and then writing furious spitefics is remarkably entertaining. Definitely NOT what Meyer had in mind, but entertaining.
I don't ship Bella with anyone--you know me and shipping. But I'm firmly convinced that one reason that Alice loves to take Bella shopping is that she can go in the dressing room with Bella and watch her strip. I'm also convinced that Jasper knows beyond any doubt that his wife wants to do Bella...and finds the idea kinda hot.
I really want to do a Twilight AU for AU_bigbang. The thing is, do I go with the Twilight/SPN crossover about Bella's mother being badass and the Cullens using Bella as bait, or the Twilight/SPN/Dresden Files crossover with snarky ghosts, nerdy werewolves, two women POCs kicking ass, and Harry Dresden being creeped out by the Angel Castiel?
(This is particularly apropos because I'm also in the middle of writing Carmilla fic in which at the end she turns Laura and they run away to be lesbian vampires together, precisely because this was what Le Fanu was terrified of and railing against.
I wonder if LeFanu realized what he was writing...because they TOTALLY come across as a couple. It's very obvious that Carmilla is interested in Laura and that Laura is responding without quite knowing why. If he was really scared of female sexuality, that makes the story even BETTER.

Oh my God, this looks so amazing. I've only read the first Twilight book, but I would actually try to finish the rest if it meant participating in text transformation like this. *_____*
no subject
But then came the sporking of New Moon.
A book where 84% of the content is about Bella not getting over being dumped, using Jacob, treating her father like dirt, and spouting anti-human speeches.
And spitefics, both in the sporkings themselves and in the comments, BLOSSOMED.
Fifty-four thousand words of them.
Basically, the members of Das_sporking wrote a novel's worth of spitefics. So Mervin started a new comm, because keeping track of all the spitefics in the comments was almost impossible, and she wanted them to be read.
It's the most fun I've had in fandom for AGES.

"Works" refers to your WIP:s here, right? *giggles*
Hmm. Please tell me about "The Windhover"! Is it about Victoria?
no subject
The Windhover is indeed about Victoria! Basically, she turns up again sometime after MotB; she thought Fraser had died when Vecchio shot him, but she happens to read a news article about the MotB case, notices that Detective Vecchio looks nothing like he's supposed to, and comes back to Chicago to ask/blackmail Fraser into running away with her.
To be honest it'd probably be written by now, except that I can't figure out how to save Fraser from Victoria. /o\ And I really don't want to kill her, which seems like the only obvious solution. So I am waiting patiently for something to come to me.
no subject
I have an idea for a story about Victoria, too, but it hasn't quite solidified yet. Basically, it's a post-Victoria's Secret story where she gets a life of her own and gets over Fraser (although it takes some time). Hmm, I think she doesn't do any more bank robbery stuff and instead becomes an only-halfway-criminal computer hacker and gets together with another female hacker.
no subject
I am so in favor of Victoria getting over Fraser, becoming a hacker, and having a romance with another female hacker, I can't even express my sheer delight at this. \o/
no subject
And I'm glad you are in favor of my idea! It will hopefully be written some time, but probably not soon.

I would like to ask about the Care and Feeding of Your Atomic Bomb, just because I love the title.
no subject
The Care and Feeding of Your Atomic Bomb is the Martha/Rose fic I mention occasionally! Martha falls through the Rift into the AU where Rose lives, and together they fight crime and become BFFs and shag. Mostly I haven't written it because I have no idea what to do with human!Doctor. It's not his fault I'm annoyed with Ten for how he treated Rose and Martha.
no subject
I mean, I don't know what would happen with the human!Doctor in ANY version of the universe, because frankly I think he'd go mad being stuck always and always in just one place!

Lolol I am genuinely trying to write out a DUDE who gets in the way of my FEMSLASH. My work here is done.

That is a THING OF BEAUTY.

Eventually he would have to figure out if the man that he remembered the Doctor being was the person that he himself wanted--or needed--to be. (And that maybe being part Donna was actually awesome.)
no subject
The logistics of a Smallville/YW cross would also be complicated, albeit in a different way; I'd think it would almost have to veer sharply AU from wherever in SV continuity one introduced the convergence.
Me, I've been noodling in my head (though not on my hard drive) about how to engineer a cross between Young Wizards and Castle....
no subject
I am with you on the Smallville/YW cross. My only thoughts on that subject are "Chloe would be an awesome wizard."
I have not actually seen any Castle! But I am all in favor of more YW crossovers. :D

(like does he have a car?)about Queer Edmund! Which I definitely just typoed into Queen Edmund, way to go, self.no subject
Part one: young King Edmund has massive gay panic because he has a crush on one of his courtiers/advisers, Peridan (who is an actualfax character! he turns up in Horse and His Boy and hangs out with Edmund :D). Eventually Edmund goes and talks to Aslan about it, because all I really want in life is for Aslan to tell everyone that it's okay to be a big queer. And then Edmund is with Peridan and everything is joyous!
Part two: Edmund is back being a young teenager in 1940s England. This really sucks, but he still deals with it better than his siblings do. Oh and he has some crush at school that he can't do a thing about.
Part three: briefly Prince Caspian, but mostly Dawn Treader, the retelling as an Edmund/Caspian story edition!
IT IS KIND OF ABSURD, IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY.

Excuse me while I SCREAM WITH LAUGHTER. <3
I am curious to know more about the Narnia idea in your brain! My childhood is a little horrified, but then, my childhood was a little horrified when the LWW film came out and everyone started shipping Peter/Edmund. It's cool, I've been in fandom long enough that I am not judging your Peter/Susan ideas.
no subject
Basically, I figure Narnia would have a more lax attitude about incest, and hey, who wants an outsider to come in when you already have two kings and two queens? (Which isn't to say that they couldn't have had dozens of lovers. Anyway.) Then the Pevensies return to our world, and Susan's repression of inappropriate brotherly love turns into repression of all that is Narnia. I would need to write an EPIC to do justice to all the complications, so this will probably never leave Idea Land.

(BTW, I'm still in the process of reading your V-Day fics and will coment at the end, but I'm *heartbroken* you didn't write me Sanctuary. I'll just have to continue to bug you about. Also to tell you to watch second season. Because it keeps getting more and more awesome. Including canon kinky!Tesla. HOW CAN YOU RESIST?!)

Crazy!Ten and Time War fics. I am so there.
Also, the Fraser is Superman thing sounds really cool. Although I think Fraser is much more interesting than most canonical DCU stuff I have read. Like, I think Fraser knows that his take on honor and justice is a big fairytale. It's a fairytale he pretty consciously chooses, because if his example makes one person believes in it with him, just a little bit, the world is a better place. And that if he doesn't keep choosing to tell that story, he could be ten times worse than Victoria.
I guess you could see Superman that way? You'd think he'd be very aware of how slippery reality and morality is, given the double life thing. Yet, I rarely get the sense he's that self aware though. He's pretty much invulnerable. What the hell does his example have to do with anything?
In turn, I suppose you could make the same argument about the Doctor being so above and beyond humanity. The difference may be that the Doctor fights with his brain and his heart(s). I dunno. At any rate, I'm sure your take on Superman would be interesting.
no subject
Oooh, I really like your Thoughts On Fraser & Superman! I'm pretty sure that Fraser with Superman's literal powers would still very consciously choose honor and justice, and make sure to still reach out to people and not be above things. Actually, I think he acts like normal Fraser does; the only real difference is that he can catch criminals a little faster and he doesn't have to worry about bullets.
Actually, it occurs to me that I don't know whether Fraser even has a double identity. On the one hand, I love picturing him being hugely awkward and wearing glasses and &c. On the other, I think he might be too honest to lead a double life? And since George and Martha Fraser are dead at this point, he doesn't really have anyone he urgently needs to protect. THOUGHTS TO PONDER.
no subject
I think that he thinks it is very wrong to lie and he HATES doing it, but he worries about human friends and lovers who are not invulnerable being hurt if the bad guys learn who is close to him and he could not live with himself if anything happened to either Ray. So he pretends to be all Kenton Clark Fraser, Mountie and he has a billion or so rules about The Right Way to Act When Being Human. And most people think that Fraser is a very very socially awkward person (which he is), but they don't realize that he is socially awkward because he is always trying to behave in the way that humans say that they want humans to act: courteous, fair, honest, noble. (I think that it's a prevailing theory among his friends that he was raised by wolves.)
